BBVA Colombia and the Gelsa Group, with its Paga Todo Para Todo brand, have announced an alliance which will enable 140 Banking Correspondents to be opened in Bogotá and Cundinamarca. With these new customer service points, users and clients of the financial institution can carry out operations, such as deposits, loan and credit card payments, withdrawals and transfers.
Submissions are now being accepted for the 2013 BBVA National Teaching Awards. The awards seek to recognize the excellent work of thousands of teachers across the country who run programs to promote reading and writing among their students.
BBVA has opened its first South American innovation center in Bogota. The Colombia innovation center joins that of Madrid, with which it shares the mission of identifying and extending best practices within BBVA, as well as promoting open innovation throughout the corporation.
BBVA Colombia announced that it would be partnering with the National Reading Plan and launching a new campaign to encourage customers to make donations to the program. BBVA Colombia customers will now be able to make direct contributions to the National Reading and Writing Plan via ATMs. The event was attended by the Minister for Education, María Fernanda Campo; a representative of Fundalectura, Alberto Sanabria, and our Chairman, Óscar Cabrera Izquierdo.
BBVA Colombia announced investments of 5.1 billion pesos for 2013 in strengthening corporate responsibility initiatives aimed specifically at supporting education as a cornerstone in building a sustainable society.
Some of the major cities in Spain, Latin America and the U.S. were painted blue again in various solidarity runs organized by BBVA. Sport, health and a desire to help the disadvantaged united more than 45,000 participants in the streets of 16 cities around the world.

The 27th BBVA Ruta Quetzal, The Real Botanical Expedition to the New Kingdom or Granada, ended with an academic closing ceremony and the handing out of diplomas at the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology at the Complutense University of Madrid. Taking part in the ceremony were Cristina Velázquez, Vice-Chancellor of the University Community; Antoni Ballabriga, Head of BBVA Corporate and Social Responsibility; Miguel de la Quadra-Salcedo and Andrés Ciudad, Head and Deputy Head of BBVA Ruta Quetzal. As part of the expedition, 224 young people from 51 countries travelled through Colombia and Spain.
