For another year running TVE is broadcasting the new series of Ruta Quetzal BBVA: ‘The Adventure of Martínez Compañón in Peru. From the Monche Desert to the Amazon Jungle’
TVE’s La 2 has broadcast the BBVA Ruta Quetzal 2011 documentary series since December 25. One episode of the series will be shown every Sunday for thirteen weeks.
‘The Adventure of Martínez Compañón in Peru. From the Monche Desert to the Amazon Jungle’ started mid June in Lima (Peru) and the young expedition team will travel for five weeks across part of the Peruvian territory over which Baltasar Jaime Martínez Compañón, bishop of Trujillo in the Viceroyalty of Peru, exercised his jurisdiction.
For the Spanish and European members of the expedition, this year’s Ruta Quetzal BBVA started in Madrid from where they journeyed on to Lima to meet up with the rest of the expedition members, all together from 53 countries. The group traveled to the northern mountainous region of Peru, undertook a tough hike to Gocta Falls, the third tallest in the world, and went on to visit the fortress of Kuélap, at a altitude of 3,000 meters.
The journey carried on in Spain and at Pasajes they boarded the Castilla, a Spanish Navy vessel, on which they sailed along the Cantabrian Coast until reaching Lisbon. After leaving the vessel to visit the Portuguese capital, they will traveled to Trujillo, where they remembered its most distinguished son, Francisco de Orellana, the discoverer of the Amazon five centuries ago.
The 2011 expedition concluded with the awarding of diplomas during the closing ceremony of the Academic Program, led by the Complutense University of Madrid.
