Francisco González, Chairman of the BBVA Foundation and Emilio Lora Tamayo, Chairman of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), yesterday presented the Premios Fronteras Del Conocimiento (Frontiers of Knowledge) Awards, in an event that brought together well-known representatives of the international scientific community, as well as public figures from the world of culture and business in Spain.
So far, 675 small and medium enterprises and self-employed individuals have benefitted from the «Yo Soy Empleo» (I am employment) training program: ‘Training for growth’. 18% are export companies. 1,200 companies, employing more than 35,000 staff, have already applied for the training, for which there are a total of 2,000 places. The initiative comes as part of BBVA’s commitment to provide the finest instruction and training to job creating companies and entrepreneurs, helping them to generate 1,000 jobs.
BBVA Bancomer has signed an alliance with FedEx, Microsoft and the Technological Institute of Monterrey to offer the country’s SMEs the first offering integrated with financial services, consulting in operations and logistics, promoting the use of information technology and staff training.
BBVA Colombia announced that it would be partnering with the National Reading Plan and launching a new campaign to encourage customers to make donations to the program. BBVA Colombia customers will now be able to make direct contributions to the National Reading and Writing Plan via ATMs. The event was attended by the Minister for Education, María Fernanda Campo; a representative of Fundalectura, Alberto Sanabria, and our Chairman, Óscar Cabrera Izquierdo.
BBVA president & chief operating officer Angel Cano is convinced that “healthy banks have to make a commitment to Spanish society and contribute actively to the revival of lending.” In this regard “a solvent and responsible financial sector is necessary to boost growth of the Spanish economy”, he said today at the Spanish Federation of Business Organizations (CEOE) annual general meeting.
The Centro Mexicano para la Filantropía (CEMEFI) has honored BBVA Bancomer with a distinction in the “13 year” category at its 8th Socially Responsible Company Awards. BBVA Bancomer Insurance, a subsidiary of the group, achieved the 5-year certification.

The 5th Edition of the BBVA Open Talent 2013 today announced the projects selected for the final. A total of 916 innovative technology-based projects were submitted to the BBVA Open Talent 2013 startup competition. The finalists from both “Technology & Innovation” and “New Banking” categories will present their projects during the celebration of the Red Innova event to be held in Buenos Aires.
Promoting financial education for individuals with little or no banking experience is one of the priorities of BBVA’s corporate social responsibility strategy.
The sixth grade class of Juanelo Turriano High School in Toledo has won the 4th ‘Active participation’ competition, run by BBVA as part of its “Future Values” educational program and aimed at supporting education in Spanish schools. The winning class will attend the «Valores de Futuro» (Future Values) camp from June 21 to 25 in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid), which is run by BBVA and United World Colleges.
