With the goal of quickly reestablishing teaching at schools in the state of Guerrero, which was hit by Hurricane Ingrid and Tropical Storm Manuel, the BBVA Bancomer Foundation has joined forces with Fundación Televisa, Fundación Grupo México, Fundación Cinépolis, la Liga BBVA Bancomer MX, Canacine and the production team behind the movie “Instructions Not Included”. The partners will work with the Federal Government, via the National Institute of Physical Educational Infrastructure for Education (INIFED), part of the Ministry of Education, to refurbish and equip schools that have been damaged by rains and flooding in each of the affected states.
The 7th BBVA Solidarity Run, organized in partnership with Cáritas Madrid, this morning saw the participation of 10,000 runners in a competition with two different routes -5 and 10 kilometers- between the Paseo de la Castellana avenue and the Retiro Park. BBVA presented the director of the branch of Cáritas Madrid, Atilano Hinojosa, with a check for €160,000 raised thanks to this outpouring of solidarity with the aim of creating a co-operative to help families in a situation of social vulnerability.
The 7th Solidarity Run brings together BBVA and Cáritas Madrid in creating a solidarity cooperative that will help socially vulnerable families obtain food and hygiene products. BBVA will make a contribution of €60,000, which will be added to by the full amount of race bib sales and donations obtained from runners with a “zero bib”.
In 2011 BBVA Asset Management Continental launched a new fund called Fondo BBVA Leer es estar adelante (Read to get ahead), the first mutual fund in Peru to support a social cause.
The ‘Euro solidario’ initiative that BBVA launched in 2006 as part of its Corporate Responsibility policy will help to prevent the social exclusion of adolescents in Spain from this year. So far, the initiative, carried out in collaboration with the Entreculturas Foundation, supported educational projects in Latin America. Nearly 4,000 BBVA employees in Spain are already collaborating with this project.
Compass «For Your Cause», one of BBVA Compass’ Retail products, has been well received by customers and generating much-needed income for non-profits and charities – a boon now that overall charitable giving is down because of the economy.
BBVA customers, employees and shareholders have raised more than 1.6 million euros through ‘Tu solidaridad vale el doble’ (Your solidarity is worth twice as much), a social campaign that ended on 28th january and was launched last december by BBVA together with Cáritas, the Spanish Red Cross and the Federación Española de Bancos de Alimentos. This amount, donated through the BBVA Suma on-line platform and BBVA branches, will be matched by the financial institution to collect over 3.3 million euros and is aimed at the most underprivileged families in Spain. Additionally, BBVA provided an initial investment of 1.5 million euros to this campaign.
Some of the major cities in Spain, Latin America and the U.S. were painted blue again in various solidarity runs organized by BBVA. Sport, health and a desire to help the disadvantaged united more than 45,000 participants in the streets of 16 cities around the world.
