BBVA finances the world’s first power plant to combine solar thermal energy and biomass energy

As part of plans to consolidate its leading position in funding renewable energy projects, BBVA has acted as Mandated Lead Arranger to finance the construction and operation of the world’s first power plant to combine solar thermal energy and biomass energy. The operation includes a senior loan of 99 million euros and a further VAT loan of 25 million euros.

The number of holders of Socially Responsible Investment funds marketed in Spain increased by 40% in 2010.

According to the 2011 Socially Responsible Investment Observatory, the financial turmoil is affecting SRI to a lesser extent than mainstream funds. This reality, according to David Murillo, professor of the ESADE Institute for Social Innovation, “is because at present more transparent and more comprehensive finances are required with the economic goal of progress, which are more concerned with the sustainable development of our environment”.
